Happy Saturday, questers! Today I’m thrilled to be part of the blog tour for the gorgeous Moonscript by Hannah Williams, which just came out this week! You may remember how much I adored her gender-bent retelling of Snow White, called Fairest Son… so needless to say, a full-on novel packed with Hannah’s gorgeous prose and lovely characters and ELVES is landing on my to-be-read pile at once.
I’ve been seeing her gorgeous character art and little hints at the story all over social media lately, which is just making me even more excited. It’s been a while since I read something with elves in it, and if the way she handled the wild fey in Fairest Son is any indication… *rubs hands together*
This is going to be good.

How is April over already? Time is WEIRD right now, as I’m sure it is for everyone. I feel like the initial COVID panic has subsided and now life (for me) is a strange blur of home, walks, writing, video calls, shows, and being more tired than I feel I have a right to be.
But there’s a lot of good to be recognized and enjoyed. And on that note, I have some stories to review here that I’m head over heels in love with! Specifically my new favorite fairytale retelling and an epic sci-fi—and also a heart-rending anime that’s surprising me with how invested I’ve become.

Writers, what’s your greatest weakness? While I believe it’s more important to focus on honing one’s strengths than getting too hung up on your problems, it’s still beneficial to recognize the areas you struggle. Then you can find ways to shore them up or at least minimize them.
My good friend Cassia Schaar asked how I deal with my writing weaknesses and it got me thinking! (I did a post on this topic waaaay back in 2015, but my writing has evolved since then.) So. I know my strengths include characterization, prose, and sometimes themes and worldbuilding as well.
But weaknesses?
Oh, that’s right, I’m perfect. *flips hair*
KIDDING. I am confronted by my writing weaknesses almost every time I sit down at the keyboard. And I think even our writing strengths can give us problems sometimes, no matter how naturally those elements may come to us.
