Editing Services

You’ve poured your heart and soul into your story. Now I want to help make your writing sing and allow your readers to lose themselves in the world you’ve crafted—without being distracted by a misplaced word or unintentionally clunky sentence.

As a writer myself, I understand what it’s like to be on both sides of a critique. It can be nerve-wracking to hit “Send”… and overwhelming to later find your edited manuscript bleeding with red ink. That’s why I am to make my feedback clear, actionable, and encouraging. You shouldn’t have to dread editor feedback. You should look forward to it!

With my background in marketing, I also welcome business projects—whether it’s polishing up your website copy or double-checking your articles to make sure your first impression is a success.

What I Edit

Fiction

  • Novels
  • Novellas
  • Short stories
  • Flash fiction

I specialize in speculative fiction for YA and adult, but am open to other genres and age groups. (No erotica. For romance, low-spice or closed-door preferred.)

Marketing Copy

  • Blog posts/articles
  • Ad copy
  • Website copy
  • Bios
  • Podcast scripts
  • Etc.

Please send an inquiry if your category isn’t on the list. If you’ve written something meant to inform, convince, or inspire, chances are good that we can work together.

Editing Services

#1. Line Edit (Fiction)

With this service, I do my utmost to honor and hone your unique voice. I give your manuscript a minimum of two read-throughs, paying careful attention to:

  • the rhythm and flow of your sentences
  • word choice
  • stilted or out-of-character dialogue
  • dialogue tags
  • crutch words and repetitive phrasing
  • consistency of voice and in-world details
  • spelling, grammar, and punctuation

I use the Chicago Manual of Style and Merriam-Webster Dictionary unless otherwise directed.

What You Receive

You will get in-line comments and tracked changes in Microsoft Word, a brief editorial letter, and a thorough style sheet for your reference. Armed with this feedback, you’ll have a clean manuscript ready to query literary agents or indie publish.

If, after applying my changes, you still want one last polish, I also offer a discounted second round that includes light line edits and a final proofread.

What Line Editing is NOT

Line editing does not diagnose problems with plot, character, worldbuilding, or high-level pacing. Those would be best handled by a developmental editor. However, if your manuscript has already been thoroughly edited from a big-picture perspective, then you’re ready for this final polish to make your work stand out!

What You Receive

You will get in-line comments and tracked changes in Microsoft Word, along with a style sheet for your reference (if applicable). Depending on the length of copy, you may or may not receive an editorial letter as well.

FAQ

What happens after I send an inquiry?

I’ll get in touch with you to discuss whether I have room in my calendar, provide a quote, and/or get more details about your project.

If you choose to proceed, I’ll provide a contract outlining the scope of my work, price, timeline of the project, and a confidentiality agreement assuring you that your work is protected.

How does payment work?

A 50% deposit is required before editing begins. The rest is due upon completion of the project. I accept PayPal, and all prices are quoted in Canadian dollars.

What’s a style sheet?

A style sheet outlines the preferences and stylistic choices of an author/editor. It’s a tool for ensuring consistency across the board, covering things like your manuscript’s specific formatting, spelling, and even character details.

If you already have a style sheet for your novel, please send it my way! It will speed up my process, and I’ll be able to add to it as needed.

To get a quote or inquire about timelines, please fill out this form. I can’t wait to work with you!
