It’s that time of year again, folks. A time for deep reflection and much introspection… a time for weighing words and counting pages… a time for looking back to the stories of yesteryear. I’m talking, of course, about our ANNUAL BOOK RECAP! *cheers*
Seriously, this might be one of my favorite posts to write every January! What could be more fun than a blitz of mini reviews, a look at my tippity top favorite reads, and fascinating bookish stats, am I right?
Now, I read quite a bit less than normal in 2020. I think we can all agree it was a weird year, and for various reasons my reading appetite waned at times. But I did get to consume some wonderful stories and even discovered a new favorite author or two.
So! Let’s see if you’ve read some of these—and if your TBR doesn’t grow by the end of this. 😉
By the by, this is my fourth year doing this! If you’re curious to see what Past Tracey was reading, take a peek.

2020 Reading Challenge
My friend Cassia and I put together a reading challenge for the year… and somewhere in the second half of 2020, I forgot we were doing this. Oops. 🙃 But let’s see how many I can check off anyways! (Successes are bolded below.)
- Set in the 1920s // Whose Body?
- Published the year you were born // fail
- By an author of 20+ books // Let the Ghosts Speak and Heaven Came Down (Bryan Davis, 30 novels), In the Region of the Summer Stars (Steven Lawhead, 40+ novels), Smoke and Iron (Rachel Caine, 50+ books)
- Siblings // The Light Between Worlds, Spindle Fire, Winter Glass, Oath of the Outcast, Heaven Came Down
- Set in Canada // fail
- At the bottom of your TBR // First Rider’s Call
- Winner of last year’s Goodreads awards // fail
- Male MC (I’ll list only the ones that had a MAIN-main male character; not those who shared POV equally with a female) // Invictus, Golden Son, Whose Body?, Let the Ghosts Speak, Oath of the Outcast, Morning Star, In the Region of the Summer Stars
- Co-authored book // My Lady Jane
- Translated // Takane & Hana, Volume 1
Well, seven out of ten’s not bad, especially considering I forgot about the challenge!

I’m so glad these are some of your favorite posts to write, because they’re some of my favorite to READ. I loooove seeing all the delicious books my Tracey has been devouring, especially since we have such similar reading tastes! Although these posts also remind just how many books I need to read. *eyes gargantuan TBR warily*
Literally the only ones you listed that I’ve read are Let the Ghosts Speak, The Hazel Wood, The Icarus Aftermath, and, of course, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Order of the Phoenix (and I adore them ALL). But practically ALL the others are on my TBR. I NEEDS THEM. I especially want to read Invictus, all of C.J. Redwine’s books, and Wicked Fox. They all sound so interesting!
Thank you for sharing all this delicious bookish goodness with us! Looks like you found some gems. Here’s hoping to another great year of reading! 😀
YAY! That makes me super happy to hear! 😀 And it’s such a fun trip down memory lane for me, skimming over all the books I’ve read in a year. So knowing YOU enjoy it too is perfect.
*starry eyes* Invictus, CJ’s books and Wicked Fox are ALL books I think you’d like! Don’t mind me as I slap these on top of that gargantuan TBR you mentioned. 😉
Thank YOU, my dear! I hope all the books you read this year are delightful.
I love these year end book posts!
I owe you thanks for introducing me to Invictus. That was a favourite for 2020. But aside from Fellowship of the Ring and Whose Body I haven’t read anything else from this list… yet.
I’m so glad!
YOU READ INVICTUS!!! *screams* And I’m so glad you loved it!!! I’m seriously planning to reread it in the next month or two. With my first read being on audiobook, I’m curious to re-experience the story in written form.
Happy reading this year, Blue!
*sighs as my TBR groans under the pressure*
It looks like you had a fantastic reading year!! And I want to read so many of these. Let the Ghosts Speak (or anything by Bryan Davis, actually), Adorning the Dark, the Weaver trilogy… I haven’t even read Warriors Against the Storm yet, oops. xD So many great books to look forward to!
And ahhh yes! Can’t wait for Shadow! 😀

Apologies to your TBR. *sheepish grin*
It was a small but mighty reading year, it seems! Oh that’s right, you haven’t read anything by Bryan Davis yet–hope you enjoy whichever book of his you try! And yes, all those other titles… highly recommend! XD
I still haven’t read Dust, whoops. But that’s high on my TBR for this year. 😉
Hi Tracey! I tagged you in my post! You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. 🙂

Oooh, fun! Thanks, Jen–I’ll go check it out! 😀
And now I’m finally back to comment on this fantabulous post!!! 😀
T_T For shame, Tracey! You made me add practically ALL of these books to my Goodreads. XDDD But seriously, WOW! So many GREAT books!!! The only ones I’ve read are King’s Warrior and The Fellowship of the Ring.
I love how you mini-reviewed all of them. I think I want to do something similar when I do an end of the year reading post on my blog, if that’s okay?
Hi hi hi! XD
Bahaha, MY PLAN IS WORKING. I saw some of your additions on Goodreads! Happy reading! 😉
Go for it! I definitely don’t have that review format trademarked, haha. Thanks for asking, though! ^_^
Dang, you read a lot more books than I did! XD I’ll have to check out some of these books soon.
Ack, don’t compare numbers, though! (She says as she tries to ignore the people who read 100+ books a year. XD) Hope you enjoy whichever titles you pick up!
By the way, your blog looks like such a wonderful place for writers–just gave you a follow!
I love the way you formatted the reviews, it’s bite-sized which is nice.
I need to read Wicked Fox!
It’s honestly my favorite way to review. Gasp, maybe I should do this for Subplots & Storylines!?!? Hmm…
I think you’d LOVE Wicked Fox. 😉 Happy reading this year, Skye!
