The Icarus Aftermath – Book Review

Have I got a great read to share with you today, my noble questers and curious bookdragons! If you love space opera, Greek mythology, found family, banter, and feels… let me introduce you to The Icarus Aftermath by Arielle M. Bailey.

First off, I love this girl to pieces, She’s intelligent, witty, and has a deep understanding of people—all of which shows up in her writing.

Secondly, The Icarus Aftermath is basically Greek mythology meets Star Wars. And even I, not having an extensive background in either of those things (hang on, don’t take my nerd card) loved the combo!

About the Book

With their best captain gone, Talos steps up to lead the Rebellion’s fighters. First objective: take out the Labyrinth. Only problem? No one can find its key.

Koralia thinks she can find it, or at least an alternative. She didn’t count on uncovering secrets that could rock the galaxy to its core. Now she’s rushing to find a solution before everything blows up in their face.

If they don’t destroy the Labyrinth soon, the Rebellion, the planets they protect, and an entire race of people are all doomed.

Greek Mythology meets Star Wars in this retelling of the Minotaur and the Labyrinth.

Okay, does that not sound like a GREAT STORY already? I’m a sucker for rebellion plots, for one thing. And for another, these are rebels worth caring about.

Subplots & Storylines – May & June 2020

It’s amazing how much life can change over the course of two months! At the beginning of May, I was working from home and suffering from such bad #rona hair that I bore a striking resemblance to 2010 Justin Bieber. (I kid you NOT.) By the end of June, I was back at the office, with said shaggy mop thankfully trimmed back to something presentable.

In between, I filled more sketchbook pages than I have in years, neglected writing,* and abandoned the realm of wi-fi for a week-long vacation at a lakeside cabin. That latter part was glorious and so, so relaxing.

*More about that in my next newsletter. It’s going out on Monday the 6th, and if you want, you can!sign up with that handy little form in the sidebar!

Brace yourself, because vacation = reading for me. Which for you means… ALLLL THE REVIEWS. Get ready to hear about Frozen 2, some sequel blues, a delightfully sassy historical fantasy novel, and a whole whack of other things in between.

Book Review: Heaven Came Down

What if a legion of beings claiming to be angels visited Earth in the aftermath of an apocalyptic war… but in exchange for restoring order, they demanded absolute obedience?

That’s the question asked by Bryan Davis’s upcoming novel, Heaven Came Down, the first in a sci-fi series called The Oculus Gate.

And boy, are you in for a mind-bending ride if you pick it up!

Subplots & Storylines – April 2020

How is April over already? Time is WEIRD right now, as I’m sure it is for everyone. I feel like the initial COVID panic has subsided and now life (for me) is a strange blur of home, walks, writing, video calls, shows, and being more tired than I feel I have a right to be.

But there’s a lot of good to be recognized and enjoyed. And on that note, I have some stories to review here that I’m head over heels in love with! Specifically my new favorite fairytale retelling and an epic sci-fi—and also a heart-rending anime that’s surprising me with how invested I’ve become.

Here we goooo!
