Subplots & Storylines – July to October 2020

SUBPLOTS AND STORYLINES IS BACK, BABY. And I am aghast, because how has it been a third of a year since I did one of these recap posts?! Let’s just chalk it up to this being the weirdest, timey-wimey-est year in history. But we’re here now, so pull up a chair. How’ve you been? What worlds have you conquered? (Or how many naps have you taken?)

Now, I know I said way back in spring or something that S&S was narrowing down to cover just book and movie reviews. (Since personal and writing updates are now featured in my email newsletter!) Buuut because it’s been so long since I gave you any sort of life update, how about a crash course on what my last four months have been like? It’s been kind of wild.

Subplots & Storylines – May & June 2020

It’s amazing how much life can change over the course of two months! At the beginning of May, I was working from home and suffering from such bad #rona hair that I bore a striking resemblance to 2010 Justin Bieber. (I kid you NOT.) By the end of June, I was back at the office, with said shaggy mop thankfully trimmed back to something presentable.

In between, I filled more sketchbook pages than I have in years, neglected writing,* and abandoned the realm of wi-fi for a week-long vacation at a lakeside cabin. That latter part was glorious and so, so relaxing.

*More about that in my next newsletter. It’s going out on Monday the 6th, and if you want, you can!sign up with that handy little form in the sidebar!

Brace yourself, because vacation = reading for me. Which for you means… ALLLL THE REVIEWS. Get ready to hear about Frozen 2, some sequel blues, a delightfully sassy historical fantasy novel, and a whole whack of other things in between.

Subplots & Storylines – April 2020

How is April over already? Time is WEIRD right now, as I’m sure it is for everyone. I feel like the initial COVID panic has subsided and now life (for me) is a strange blur of home, walks, writing, video calls, shows, and being more tired than I feel I have a right to be.

But there’s a lot of good to be recognized and enjoyed. And on that note, I have some stories to review here that I’m head over heels in love with! Specifically my new favorite fairytale retelling and an epic sci-fiβ€”and also a heart-rending anime that’s surprising me with how invested I’ve become.

Here we goooo!

Subplots & Storylines – March 2020

Well, this feels weird, not gonna lie. If this edition of Subplots & Storylines looks a little short to you, it’s because of the change I announced earlier in the week. You can find all the details HERE, along with the big reveal of my “secret” project, but as a quick refresher… S&S will continue to be a roundup of my usual book and movie reviews, but the writing/personal updates are packing up and moving house! In other words, they’ll be in my brand new newsletter instead. πŸ˜‰ The sign-up form for that is now in the blog’s sidebar!

*clear throat* Now that the self-promotion is out of the way, onward to the review stuff! There’s quite the mix of genres going on here….
