Silmaril Awards 2021 – Most Mischievous Imp Nominations

Well met, my friends—both new and old! We’ve come once again to a time of fantastical celebration… a battle of wits and heroism and villainy and flame… a time for bestowing honor upon only the most worthy of fantasy characters. Yes indeed… ’tis the dawn of the SIXTH ANNUAL SILMARIL AWARDS!

If you were here in my corner of the bloggerly woods last summer, you might remember I hosted the Most Epic Heroine award. Let me tell you, my house has never seen quite that many characters all at once before. One hundred forty-eight fair maidens and sword maidens and what-have-you were nominated, so you can imagine that was one MASSIVE slumber party in my backyard. It was a grand old time, and infinitely less inflammatory than the year I hosted Most Magnificent Dragon.

But this year! Ahh, this year it shall be a different story. Gone are the noble warrioresses… In their place comes a tide of none other than…

The Most Mischievous Imps.

Eheh.

But never fear! I’ve locked away my valuables and child-proofed my home, so I’m well prepared for their shenanigans.

I think.

And to present this dubiously honorable award, we have none other than Pippin, otherwise known as Peregrin Took!

Imagines & Fluff ✨ — Dating Peregrin “Pippin” Took Would Include

Now, on to business. If this is your first year participating in the Silmaril Awards, WELCOME! You’re in for several weeks of fantasy fun, bookish discussions, and crazy shenanigans. All the juicy details are at the official website HERE. But this is the gist of things:

You have from today, September 6th, Through Friday, September 10th to nominate the characters YOU think should win in each category!

To make your nominations, visit each of the ELEVEN* participating blogs.

*Yes, eleven! You read that right. This year we’ve added a brand new category to kick the festivities up a notch!

So how do nominations work? Simply leave a comment on the corresponding post with the name of a character and the book he/she’s from. And be sure to read through everyone else’s comments and “second” any nominations you agree with! (To second, just reply and say something like, “I second so-and-so!”)

When the week is over, we’ll be tallying up all the nominations/seconds, and only the TOP FIVE in each category will move on to the voting period. So your seconds are of great importance!

A few more caveats…

  1. Tolkien’s characters are not eligible for these awards. We hold his work as one of the pillars of the fantasy genre. Given that illustrious position, it is Tolkien’s characters who show up to bestow the Silmarils on well-deserving characters created by other authors.
  2. These awards are solely for fantasy characters! But because the lines are sometimes blurred in the realm of speculative fiction, go ahead and make an argument for a fantastical character who belongs to a book with sci-fi elements. (Example: The Lunar Chronicles counts as fantasy.)
  3. When nominating, please mention which book the character is from. We blogger hosts are avid bookdragons, but even we haven’t read everything in the universe just yet. (Trust me, we’re working on it.)
  4. Nominate and second AS MANY characters as you wish! Just be aware that you can’t make a nomination and then second the same character. We’re watching for any such sneakery. 😉
  5. Characters who have won in a particular category in the past are not eligible for that category again. (See the list below.)
  6. Authors, you’re more than welcome to participate! We just ask that you don’t nominate your own characters. Do feel free to encourage your readers to join in, though.
  7. Oh yes, and remember these are for book characters, not film. In the case of stories that are both books and movies, if the book came first, it’s eligible.
  8. Have heaps and heaps of fun!!!

Past winners of the Most Mischievous Imp category, who are therefore no longer eligible, include…

  • 2020 Kalmar from Wingfeather Saga
  • 2019 Crispin Beasley from The Afterverse
  • 2018 Peter Pan from Peter Pan
  • 2017 The Weasley Twins from Harry Potter
  • And you’ll notice there’s no 2016 awardee, since this award was actually not yet in existence during the birth year of the Silmaril Awards. Always one step behind, those imps. (Or are they?)

And that’s that, friends! Go forth and nominate the most mischievous imps you know!

P.S. Don’t forget to make the rounds to ALL the blogs… Then come back during voting week (September 13-17) to cast your votes!

P.P.S. You look like someone who likes to read. You know, just going off the fact that you read this far in a post all ABOUT book characters. I’d love to send you my short story called “Petrichor,” an eerie tale of old memories and doors that shouldn’t be opened. Click here to receive it via dragon email!

~ NOMINATIONS CLOSED! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR DELIGHTFULLY IMPISH NOMINEES! ~

OH MY. I did not think about you and Josiah having to keep the imps and henchmen IN THE SAME HOUSE. This will be an interesting year… I would offer to send a dragon or two to help wrangle them all buuut I’m not sure that’d be very HELPFUL.

  15. Josiah Dyck

Wow, you roomed a lot of heroines last year. Hopefully this year will be a bit tamer? The last thing we need is both imps and henchmen running amok. What a terrifying thought.

I’m gonna nominate Warren from The Magisterium series since nobody else has. (I mean, c’mon. A lizard fire elemental with a penchant for trickery? Sounds perfect for this category.)

    • Tracey Dyck

Eheheh… by now I have a feeling one imp is as much a handful as ten heroines. So we’re probably still in a pickle.

I’m not familiar with Warren, but he DOES sound like the perfect imp!

  16. Joyful

I second: Nastya (Romanov), Sage and Fink (Ascendance Trilogy), Felix (Goldstone Wood), Walter(DioM), Mythfits and Julio(Beaumont and Beasley/Crockett and Crane), Pet, North and The Old Mad Bloke (City Between), and Tink and Zouzab(Wingfeather Saga).

ALSO. Best of luck housing the Henchmen and Imps in one house this year!!! Perhaps I can send over some of the wise counselors to settle things down a wee bit. XD
